I’m a big fan of this single-storey project from Japanese firm Naoi Architects. The modernist sensibilities running throughout are immediately appealing, along with the limited palette which is provided by the gentle use of materiality. The honesty of the exposed timber roof structure imbues the whole space with a friendly warmth, and it just looks a very serene and restful place to live.
Sadly I couldn’t find the original project on the architects’ website, but you can see more images on Dezeen.

It’s always interesting to see how those who design items for our living spaces, use and decorate their own, and this is certainly true in the case of Dieter Rams, forefather to the elegant industrial aesthetic used in large today, and figurehead of disciplined design.
As both architect and lead-designer, Rams doesn’t disappoint, staying true to his near-religious design ideals throughout the build. Opulence is neglected in favour of utility and economy, resulting in a series of satisfying spaces that are free from the common distractions of clutter and unnecessary ornament.
