Nils Frahm – Familiar (Teaser)

August 6th, 2011

I discovered this track last week thanks to a recommendation on illustrator Will Scobie’s twitter feed, and I’ve been listening to it almost non-stop since. Although only a mere 1:58 long, it’s hauntingly beautiful, and manages to pack a lot of atmosphere into its short run-time.

Recorded late at night in the depths of Berlin, composer Nils Frahm employs a uniquely intimate set-up, with the microphones placed in close to the piano strings, and a damper used to artistic effect. The resulting sound one rich with creaks and tweaks, breaths of effort, and other external noises that would normally be hidden away.

The track is a teaser for the song ‘Familiar’ from his upcoming album ‘Felt’, which i’ll definitely be looking out for when it drops later this year. Find out more about the project on Soundcloud.November Update
